Every city has moments when its strengths shine through, when community, purpose, and hope intersect. For Memphis, one of those moments is the Big River Crossing (BRX) hosted by Peer Power Foundation. On November 15, 2025, runners, walkers, and supporters will converge for the 9th annual BRX to support Peer Power’s mission of empowering youth through education, mentorship, and opportunity. It’s more than a race; it’s a bridge, literal and symbolic, connecting people across the Mississippi River and building momentum for a stronger future. (peerpowerfoundation.org)
What Peer Power Does & Why It Matters
Peer Power Foundation is a Memphis-based nonprofit that’s been changing lives for nearly two decades. Its mission is straightforward but powerful: To provide youth with high-quality, life-enhancing tutoring and mentoring services that ensure personal, partner, and provider success.
The organization delivers this through a range of programs:
- Tutoring and mentoring – College students work directly with high schoolers, building both skills and relationships.
- ACT Prep – Participants improve their scores by an average of 3.2 points, opening doors to scholarships and college admission.
- Earn & Learn – A program that trains and pays University of Memphis students to serve as tutors, creating a cycle of learning and leadership.
- Summer Bridge Camp – Focused on preparing students for the transition into high school or college.
The results speak loudly. Peer Power boasts an 84% college graduation rate among its students, with many former participants returning as educators, mentors, and leaders. The organization doesn’t just improve grades; it strengthens confidence, resilience, and long-term opportunity.

The Big River Crossing Race: More Than Just a 5K
The BRX is one of Peer Power’s flagship events and a major fundraiser for its programs. But it’s more than a race; it’s a community celebration.
Participants can choose from multiple events:
- Half Marathon – A challenge for seasoned runners.
- 10K and 5K races – Popular with recreational runners and corporate teams alike.
- 1-Mile Family Fun Walk – Accessible for all ages, including families and community supporters.
The courses highlight Memphis at its best. Runners cross the Mississippi River on the longest public pedestrian bridge in the United States and loop through the revitalized Tom Lee Park. Every registration helps fuel Peer Power’s mission of supporting Memphis students.
Last year, more than 1,500 people registered, representing students, families, companies, and civic groups. That kind of turnout builds visibility and momentum, ensuring Peer Power can continue delivering measurable results for students year-round.

Join the AMH Team or Start Your Own
This year, AMH is making it easier than ever to take part in the Big River Crossing. We’re covering half the cost of race registration for anyone who wants to join. Here’s how it works:
- Join the AMH Team – Sign up through this registration link, and you’ll automatically receive 50% off. AMH will cover the other half so Peer Power still receives the full charitable race fee.
Join the Team - Create your own team – If your company or group would like to form a separate team, simply contact us for a 50% off coupon code. You’ll still pay half, and AMH will contribute the other half so Peer Power receives the full benefit.
- Make a donation – If you aren’t able to participate in the race, you can still support Peer Power by making a charitable gift at peerpowerfoundation.org.
It’s a simple way to get involved, support an important cause, and enjoy one of Memphis’s most scenic races.
Peer Power Foundation has proven that when students receive consistent support, they rise to the occasion. From improved test scores to higher graduation rates, the impact is tangible. The Big River Crossing is both a fundraiser and a symbol of that work, a chance for the community to come together, enjoy a one-of-a-kind race, and invest in Memphis’s future leaders.
As November 15 approaches, the invitation is open: join the race, build community, and help Peer Power continue creating opportunities that last a lifetime.
